Local news @ Phuket Thailand
The Phuket Gazette is the local new paper @ Phuket fro English speaking people.
Mobile Phone usage in Thailand
If you require a mobile phone while you are @ Phuket, the easiest way is to bring your mobile phone with you and buy a pre paid
SIM card when you arrive. The SIM card gives you a local phone number.
You can then buy pre paid top up cards which cost around 300 Thai Baht (approve $7 USD), They can be purchased from most
supermarkets, book stores, Seven Eleven stores & mobile phone outlets around Phuket.
The best Pre paid SIMS Card to use is "One-Two-Call", They have the strongest service @ Phuket so making & receiving
calls should never be a problem
Visa Run
If you want to stay in Thailand for longer than your visa permits, the solution is to do a visa run.
A visa run is a tour group that takes you across the Thailand border and brings you back to Thailand the same day. The two easiest options for a visa run ... Ranong / Burma or Singapore
A Visa Run to Ranong from Phuket is cheap & easy, It takes around 10 hours (round trip) and costs 1,000 Baht.
A minibus takes you to the Thai border @ Ranong - , You get your passport stamped when you leave Thailand.
A boat then takes you to Burma, the boat trip takes around 20 minutes each way.
You get your passport stamped at Burma and you then come back to Thailand to receive another 30 day Tourist entry visa @ the
Thailand border. The visa run is easy to do and everything is organized for you including pick up & drop off @ your hotel & lunch.
There will be other people on the mini bus doing the same visa run so it's a great time to make new friends and share travel
stories, There are many companies that offer visa runs throughout Thailand, some of them are less reputable than others so don't
go for the cheapest option as it is not always the best option.
Visa Run to Singapore - If money is not an issue than a visa run to Singapore is a pleasant experience.
The flight takes only 1.5 hours & costs aprox 6000 Thai Baht ($120 USD).
You get to do some duty free shopping @ Singapore, You can stay over night or return to Phuket within an hour. Flight's to Singapore
depart every day from Phuket airport.
If you stay past your visa date in Thailand, you will have to pay a fine of 500 Thai Baht for every day you over stayed in
Thailand & you will have the hassle of a lot of paper work to do @ the Thailand Customs office before you can depart Thailand.
